LONG COVID
It is known that 10% of patients who have COVID will go on to have continuing symptoms.
The London General Practice has developed a programme of post covid testing and care.
We have assembled a team of specialists including cardiologists, respiratory physicians, musculoskeletal specialists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, neurologists and mental health experts to provide a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to this continuing problem.
Post Covid Monitoring Service
For those suffering from or concerned about Long Covid.
The service involves a preliminary comprehensive history and examination by an experienced general practitioner.
This consultation will help to highlight any continuing symptoms and the patient is encouraged to bring up any issues whatsoever, however small, they may consider them.
The thorough examination will show any obvious abnormality.
Following this, our general practitioner will discuss any laboratory tests needed.
These usually would include hematology, biochemistry to include liver and kidney function, signs of inflammation such as CRP, and ferritin and specialised tests for the heart such as the BNP and troponin and the D-dimer clotting test.
The examination may include some form of exercise testing.
If the patient is having acute symptoms, then emergency referral will be considered.
Following the examination, if the patient is suffering any symptoms of anxiety or depression, this will be assessed using the appropriate mental health questionnaire.
If specialist referral is considered necessary, this will be made at the time of the appointment and a specialist physiotherapy team will be engaged.
Follow up will occur depending on clinical need at one or two weeks post initial consultation.
