FAQ’S

Psychology & Counselling

1.Who can benefit from therapy?
People come to therapy for many different reasons. Some are experiencing anxiety, stress or low mood, while others are coping with trauma, physical health conditions, relationship difficulties or significant life changes. Therapy provides a safe and supportive space to better understand these challenges and develop practical ways of moving forward.
2. What can I expect during my first therapy session?

Your first appointment is an opportunity to explore your current difficulties, relevant background and what you would like to achieve from therapy. Together we will develop a shared understanding of your needs and discuss the most appropriate treatment approach.

3. What types of therapy do you offer?

I work in an integrative way, tailoring therapy to each individual’s needs rather than following a single therapeutic model. Depending on your circumstances, therapy may draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR, mindfulness and somatic approaches, alongside principles of Health Psychology.

4. How do I know which type of therapy I need?
You don’t need to decide this before your appointment. During your initial assessment, we will take time to understand your current difficulties, goals and personal circumstances before discussing the most appropriate therapeutic approach.
5. What are somatic approaches?
Stress and trauma are experienced in the body as well as the mind. Somatic approaches help people understand and work with these physical responses, recognising that lasting recovery often involves both mind and body.
6. Can I access therapy if I have a physical health condition?
Yes. As a Chartered Health Psychologist, I have expertise in supporting people living with acute and chronic physical health conditions. Therapy can help individuals understand and manage the emotional impact of illness, persistent symptoms and treatment, while supporting overall wellbeing and quality of life.
7. Can therapy help with workplace stress?
Yes. I have extensive experience supporting people experiencing work-related stress and burnout, helping individuals understand the factors contributing to stress and develop practical strategies to improve wellbeing.
8. How many therapy sessions will I need
The number of sessions varies depending on your individual needs, goals and the nature of the difficulties being addressed.
9. How long is a therapy session?
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes.
10. Is therapy confidential?
Yes. All therapy sessions are confidential and your privacy is fully protected.
11. Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. I offer both in-person and online appointments to provide flexibility where appropriate.
12. Do you provide therapy for children and adolescents?
No. I work with adults aged 18 years and over.
13. Are couples therapy services available?
Not at present. I currently offer therapy for individuals only.
14. Is a referral required?
No. You can self-refer directly through The London General Practice. Referrals from GPs, consultants and other healthcare professionals are also welcome.
15. Are you qualified and experienced?
I am a Chartered Health Psychologist and Psychotherapist with over 25 years’ clinical experience. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the British Psychological Society (BPS), the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and EMDR UK.
