Hay fever is an allergic reaction to pollen and other allergens in the air. Often developing in childhood hay fever can affect people of all ages and typical allergens in the UK include tree, pollen and grass pollen among others.
Common hay fever symptoms
can include:
- Sneezing
- Itchy or watery eyes
- A runny nose
- Itching throat
- Headaches
There are a few ways that you can treat hay fever and help reduce symptoms:
- Antihistamines
- Saline Nasal Sprays
- Steroid Nasal Sprays
- Air purifiers
- Eyedrops
Dr Naveed highlights the benefit of steroid nasal sprays as while it can take some time to have an effect it can manage a wide range of symptoms.
“Beconase and Flixonase contain small amounts of steroid such as beclometasone,” says Dr Naveed Asif “These help to reduce the body’s allergic response to triggers such as pollen”
