A German study which looked at 442 individuals with COVID-19 who had mostly mild symptoms followed these patients up four months post infection had.

This was published in The Lancet Regional Health by Augustine and others in July 2021.

The most significant symptoms which persisted in this cohort are:

  • Shortness of breath 9%
  • Loss of smell 10%
  • Loss of taste 11%

At least one of these characteristic symptoms was present in 123 participants at both four months and seven months.

Interestingly, the risk of prolonged symptoms at seven months post infection was associated with a lower level of anti SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies, loss of smell, and diarrhoea during the acute phase of the infection.
