Blood Group and Severity of COVID-19

It has been found that having type A blood is linked to a 50% increase in the likelihood that a patient would need oxygen or have to go on a ventilator.

This was from a pre-print and not peer reviewed article by Ellinghouse and others while looking at patients with COVID-19 respiratory failure at seven centres in Italy and Spain.

The article looked at the genomes in these patients and found that higher risk for A positive individuals and a protective effect for blood group O.

This is clearly interesting and requires peer review and further investigation.
