Health Screening

Wellness is a state of being in good health, both physically and mentally, and of being free of (and not at risk of) illness. To maintain wellness, individuals need to follow a regimen of periodic risk assessment and adopt behaviour changes that lead to a lower risk of acquiring certain diseases. Wellness is the goal behind efforts at health promotion and disease prevention and includes physical fitness, optimal nutrition, and spiritual, social, and emotional health.

The promotion of wellness is intended to encourage people to change their high-risk behaviours in order to enjoy a disease-free and fulfilling life. Prescribed changes in behaviour can result in the development of an individual's full potential.

The London General Practice Health Screen

Annual Health Screens take 1 hr and 30 minutes to complete. You will be asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment so that a new patient questionnaire can be completed (we only require this once). You will at first be consulted by The Practice Nurse who will undertake the following:

Height, weight & blood pressure, ECG (Electrocardiogram), Vitalograph (lung function test), visual acuity and colour blindness test and stressometer. The nurse will also take bloods and require a urine sample from you.

The above takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

You will then be consulted by the Doctor who will undertake a physical examination and discuss your medical history in full. This is the most valuable aspect of the health screen as it enables the Doctor to establish any past medical issues and gives you the opportunity to raise any health concerns you may have. Once the medical is complete and we have obtained the relevant results back, you will receive a full and comprehensive report including an explanation of the outcome of samples taken plus the tests undertaken by the practice nurse.
For optimum health and happiness, it is important to look after yourself - and with help from The London General Practice, you can achieve just that. Our health screens will provide you with a clear understanding of your current health, advising you of how to stay in the best possible condition, both for work and family life.
